Community Involvement
Our calendar year begins in the summer months as we install new officers, renew our membership, and plan the year. It is during this time that we decide our charity work for the year. Our goal is to have at least one project per year that benefits our community.
Our past work includes:
- Adopting families during the holiday season
- Fundraising and walking for the March of Dimes
- Monetary donation to Children’s Hospital Central California
- Donation of baby gear and clothes to the Holy Cross Center for Women
- Donation of baby gear and clothes to Boys & Girls Club
- Donation of maternity clothes to Naomi’s House & Poverello House
Highlights:
Holiday “Adopt a Family”
During the 2007 and 2008 holiday seasons, CVMC sponsored different families in need so that they could celebrate Chrismas. In 2007, we adopted two families with twins - one family with four children including 18 month old twin girls and another family of three with 10 year old twin girls. In 2008, we adopted 4 families with sixteen children total. Two families had triplets and two families had twins and all of the families had at least one more child.
During the last two years, we were able to present each child from these families with new clothing and a new toy. In addition, we were able to help the families get a Christmas tree from Cobb Ranch and we included a gift certificate for a local grocery store for their Christmas celebration. Nothing will quite match the joy we felt as we delivered a Christmas tree, presents, and grocery gift card to each family.
March of Dimes “March for Babies”
CVMC participated in the March for Babies in April 2007, April 2009 and April 2010. March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization with a mission to help save babies from premature birth and birth defects. As parents of multiples, dealing with prematurity is something that hits close to home for many of the members in our club. Many of us have stories of preterm labor and delivery. We are proud to say that in April 2007 we raised over $3500 and in April 2009 we raised over $3100 for the March of Dimes. With only a few members participating in April 2010, we still raised over $1100.
We have big plans for ways that we can give back to our community in the future. We are hoping to provide a scholarship to a high school student for college. One of the qualifications will be that the individual is a twin/triplet. We would also like to provide younger students with backpacks and school supplies at the end of summer.
