Bottle Feeding

As you will find out, bottle feeding can be somewhat complicated.  As new parents, how do we decide what type of bottles to buy and how many to purchase?  What types of formulas are out there?  How in the world will I feed two or more babies by myself?  Hopefully this section will answer any overwhelming questions or concerns you may have.

Methods in Feeding Multiples

There are several ways to bottle feed more than one child.  Everyone does it differently, as all babies have different needs.  Here are some examples:

Get bottles, pillows, and burp cloths ready on a table next to a glider rocker with ottoman (or any chair with good back support and a foot stool to put your feet on).  Prepare two regular bed size pillows -- one pillow for your lap (sitting on ottoman) and one ready to place under your arm (sitting in chair).  Place both babies on the pillow and lift them onto your lap.  Sitting in the glider rocker, feet up on the ottoman, knees bent so that babies' heads are elevated instead of flat, turn infant with least head control into cradle position. Angle the other baby so that his/her head is on your knee nearest the other baby's head.  In this position you are able to manipulate both bottles with either hand (not always the most comfortable, but it works).

Place the baby with the most head control at your side in a car seat (tilted slightly upright).  Fold up a thin blanket or towel and position it on the baby’s tummy.  Prop the bottle on the blanket/towel and feed the other baby cradled in your arm or sitting in your lap (Indian style) with head on your knee.

You can also do the same thing as above, but put both babies in their car seats and prop the bottles on a thin blanket or towel.

You can also do these same methods by using 2 bouncy seats or newborn loungers by Boppy.

Sit on the couch and lay each baby's head on one of your legs (comfortably), and feed them that way, or put both of them on your lap and use a pillow for their heads.  This method is a lot easier as you can look in their faces and talk/play with them as you're feeding them.

Prop both babies on Boppy loungers or put them in car seats and prop up the Podee Hands Free bottles next to them!
